Malbec is a thin skinned blue-purple grape used in making red wine. It ripens mid-season, producing grapes that are inky and dark in color. The wines are rich, dark and juicy. Malbec is susceptible to various grape diseases and viticultural hazards - most notably frost, coulure, downy mildew and bunch rot. Requires a milder climate than Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon.
